Tsenkher Hot Spring

Tsenkher Hot Spring is one of Mongolia's most famous natural hot springs, located in Tsenkher soum, Arkhangai Province, approximately 450 km west of Ulaanbaatar. Nestled in the beautiful Khangai Mountain range, it is surrounded by forests, rolling hills, rivers, and fresh mountain air, making it one of the country's most relaxing travel destinations.

The spring water naturally emerges from underground at a temperature of around 86°C (187°F), making it the second hottest natural hot spring in Mongolia. Since the water is too hot for direct bathing, it is cooled and supplied to indoor and outdoor pools at nearby ger camps and resorts.

The mineral-rich water contains bicarbonate, sodium, calcium, magnesium, silica, sulfur compounds, and other natural minerals. Traditionally, these minerals are believed to help relax muscles, improve blood circulation, reduce fatigue, ease joint discomfort, and promote overall well-being. While many visitors enjoy these benefits, they should not be considered a substitute for professional medical treatment.

One of the highlights of Tsenkher Hot Spring is the opportunity to soak in an open-air hot spring pool while enjoying the surrounding mountains and forests. During the evening, visitors can relax under a sky filled with countless stars, creating one of the most memorable experiences in central Mongolia.

Besides bathing in the hot springs, visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking through the surrounding forests, horseback riding, exploring nearby valleys, and experiencing traditional Mongolian ger camps. The area is especially beautiful from June to September, when the mountains are covered with lush green vegetation and wildflowers.

Tsenkher Hot Spring is commonly included in Central Mongolia itineraries together with Kharkhorin (Karakorum), Erdene Zuu Monastery, Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake, and the Khorgo Volcano, making it one of the most popular destinations for travelers seeking both nature and relaxation.
