A MAJOR GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE IS TAKING PLACE IN MONGOLIA

Mongolia is currently hosting COP17 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), one of the world’s major international conferences addressing land and environmental challenges.

📅 17–28 August 2026
📍 Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Government representatives, international organizations, scientists, environmental experts and civil society representatives from around the world have gathered in Ulaanbaatar to discuss some of the most urgent environmental challenges facing our planet.

Key discussions focus on desertification, land degradation, drought, sustainable rangeland management, water resources, food security and the restoration of degraded land. Countries are also sharing experiences and exploring international cooperation and long-term solutions for protecting land and building greater resilience to climate change.

Hosting COP17 is particularly significant for Mongolia, a country with vast grasslands and a strong nomadic pastoral heritage that is increasingly affected by desertification, land degradation and climate-related challenges.

Under the theme “Restoring Land. Restoring Hope.”, COP17 places Mongolia at the center of an important global conversation about the future of our land and environment.
